Land & Sea
Every tiny place on earth has its own solitary elusive atmosphere, the envelope of light and color that changes from moment to moment.
I humbly use color to incorporate the surrounding atmosphere and the movement of wind and water into the tenor of my landscape paintings. It resonates with my sense of the ephemeral, that delicate, changing balance in nature.
Sometimes you just want to feel the timeless memory of spending a whole day in the woods, or smelling the salt sea air and the world around you.

Alpine Calf - Oil on panel, 8" x 10"
The Scottish Highland cattle have been adopted by the Swiss and this calf was quite a happy little guy. I have seen them in many parts of Switzerland. It makes sense that such a breed would do well in the grassy alps. This was particularly lovely day in Interlaken, and our loft was just a stone's throw away. |
Goat Rock,
Oil on panel, 8" x 10" I have a ritual of commemorating New Years Day by going out to the coast or to the woods, and then paint the freshness and the hope of the new year. |
New Years Day - California Coastline
Oil on panel, 24" x 31.5" I received one of those 2:00 am calls early that morning, the kind that makes your heart stop. My daughter's house was flooding from a terrible storm. "A rake just floated by", she said. Her sisters and I traveled from northern and southern California to see her and support her. We brought love, and we laughed and cried. We stayed at a hotel on the coast where I photographed this scene and the low light skimming across the water. New Years Day, and everyone was safe. That's what was important. |
Yin Yang - Bodega Head, diptych, Oil on canvas, 30" x 54"
It was dusk, and we were on our way to dinner. It felt like such a stunning sky for a birthday, adding even more celebration to the evening. |

Homage to Segantini
Oil on panel, 18" x 24" The Inverness Series I was attracted by the vast expanse of textural cadence in this frosty early morning scene that lies in the foreground of Tomales Bay. Inspired by Segantini’s clear affection for the Swiss countryside and his Division style that exudes such radiance, I was drawn to experience color in waves of movement and the eternal rhythm of the changing seasons. |
Swan Lake - Grand Teton National Park
Oil on panel, 18" x 24" We took the Swan Lake - Heron Pond Trail in Wyoming, an 8 mile loop that revealed exceptional quiet beauty. Everything about Grand Teton National Park is beyond remarkable. |
